DUKE OF MARMALADE FILLY MAKES £1MILLION

Drakenstein Stud’s top class sire Duke Of Marmalade was back in the news on the second day of the 2017 Tattersalls December Mares Sale on Tuesday.

His four time stakes winning daughter Modernstone was knocked down to Ballylinch for 1 000 000 guineas.

The seven-year-old mare, who sold in foal to Galileo –sire of Duke Of Marmalade’s Investec Derby winning half-brother Ruler Of The World, was consigned to the sale by Baroda & Colbinstown Studs.

Modernstone, produced by Nureyev’s daughter Post Modern, scored her biggest win when landing the Listed Fasig Tipton Marathon Stakes  and also finished third in the G3 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes.

Her sire Duke Of Marmalade is also responsible for the stakes placed Madernia, who made 340 000 guineas on the first day of the Mares Sale.

Cartier Champion and five time G1 winner Duke Of Marmalade has enjoyed another excellent season in 2017 with his runners including G1 Gold Cup winner Big Orange, G2 Sky Classic hero Can’thelpbelieving, and US G1 filly Responsibleforlove.

The son of Danehill will have first South African born crop race this season.
