TOP PRICED TRIPPI COLT MAKES WINNING DEBUT

20 June 2018

Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi was represented by an impressive debut winner at Kenilworth on Tuesday when his two-year-old son Charles made a winning debut over 1200 metres.

Always up with the pace, the Drakenstein Stud bred colt quickened up nicely with 100m left to run and went on to score a first out victory by a length and a quarter going away.

Trained by Brett Crawford, Charles was steered to his debut win by Corne Orffer. The colt is out of Dynasty’s G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge winning daughter Demanding Lady.

The son of Trippi is the joint top priced yearling ever sold at public auction in South Africa, having cost R6 000 000 when purchased from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Charles is one of four two-year-old winners for Trippi this season, with others including Listed Perfect Promise Sprint winner Lesedi La Rona, who holds an entry for the Listed Irridescence Stakes at the end of the month and the G1 performer Chimichuri Run (third in both the G1 Gold Medallion and G2 SA Nursery). Chimichuri Run holds an entry in the G2 Golden Horseshoe, which will be run over 1400m at Greyville on Vodacom Durban July day.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi’s star performers this season include exported G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend and Cape Guineas second White River.

Trippi will be joined at Drakenstein by his son Gold Standard for next season.
