Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi came up with his 79th individual stakes winner when his consistent son Crome Yellow won the Listed Woolavington Stakes (2400m) at Kenilworth racecourse on Saturday.
Under inform jockey Keagan De Melo, the Andre Nel trained gelding dug down deep in the closing stages to land the 2020 Woolavington Stakes by a head.
Now a seven time winner from 26 starts, Crome Yellow took his earnings to nearly R600 000 with his Woolavington Stakes win.
The gelding had previously finished runner up in both the G3 WSB Cape Summer Stayers Handicap and 2019 G3 HeinekenChairman’s Cup.
Owned and bred by Sabine Plattner, Crome Yellow is out of the Jallad mare Senorita Sol, and he is bred on the same Trippi/Jallad cross as Merchants winner Triptique.
His sire Trippi, Champion Sire in South Africa in 2015-2016, is sire of nearly 80 stakes winners and his progeny have earned in excess of $61 000 000 in prize money.
