FUTURA FILLY ROMPS IN ORMOND FERRARIS OAKS TRIAL

15 March 2026

Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning sire Futura enjoyed a notable day on Saturday.
Not only did Futura’s daughter Curious Girl run out a hugely impressive winner of the Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial, but Futura had a colt make R1 000 000 at Saturday’s session of the Premier Yearling Sale.

Trained by Mike and Mathew De Kock, progressive three-year-old Curious Girl made it three wins in a row with her victory on Saturday.
Under Gavin Lerena, Curious Girl was always up with the pace and she pulled away in the straight to win as she liked by five and three quarter lengths.

Bred by Riyo Stud, Saturday’s winner races for Hollywood Racing.

Curious Girl, who is out of the Ideal World mare Idaho, has won four of six starts and she looks a lively contender for the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks next month.

The filly was a R160 000 buy from 2024 National Yearling Sale.

Her four time G1 winning sire Futura, whose flagbearers this season include promising G1 Lucky Fish Cape Derby runner up Note To Self and G3 New Turf Carriers Western Cape Stayers hero Ahead Of The Facts, also enjoyed success at Turffontein on Thursday and Hollywoodbets Scottsville one day earlier.
His daughters Falconfly and Stampede Ahead both won their respective races impressively, with Falconfly capturing Thursday’s For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 FM 76 Handicap by four lengths and Stampede Ahead breaking her maiden by nearly five and three quarter lengths.

Futura also enjoyed sales ring success on Saturday when Drakenstein Stud consigned Farinthedistance (Lot 238) was knocked down to Hollywoodbets for R1 000 000. The colt is out of the G3 winning Trippi mare Fromafar and is bred on the same potent Futura/Trippi cross as the likes of Future Swing, Pink Tourmaline and Sweet Future.

The champion has four lots on offer at the National Yearling Sale, including a half-brother (Lot 52) to HSH Princess Charlene Big Cap winner All Out For Six, and a half-sister (Lot 350) to G1 Champions Challenge winner Coral Fever.
