SHARP FRANK RELATIVE SHINES

25 May 2025

Drakenstein Stud’s beautifully bred stallion Sharp Frank gained a handsome update to his pedigree on Saturday.

Sharp Frank’s close relative Little Suzie, who was produced by Sharp Frank’s champion half-sister Oh Susanna, picked up her biggest win to date when she won the G2 Tote Woolavington (2000m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

A three-year-old daughter of Trippi, Little Suzie emulated her outstanding dam by winning the Woolavington 2000.

The Justin Snaith trained filly pulled hard early on, under Sean Veale, before hitting the front close home and going on to win by just over a length.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Little Suzie has won two of eight starts, with Little Suzie having finished third in the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas earlier in the season.

The filly is out of the outstanding Street Cry mare Oh Susanna, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2017-2018, Champion 3YO Filly and Middle Distance Horse of 2017-2018 and Champion Older Female in 2018-2019.
The brilliant Oh Susanna won five graded stakes races including the 2018 G1 Sun Met.

Remarkably, the same day saw Sharp Frank and Oh Susanna’s half-sister Marksman Queen win the Keertana Stakes at Churchill Downs.
A five-year-old daughter of Dubawi, Marksman Queen picked up her first black type win when she stormed home, under Frankie Dettori, to land Saturday’s feature by half a length.

Marksman Queen is one of four stakes horses produced by the top-class Sharp Susan, herself winner of six races including the G2 Lake Placid Stakes.

Sharp Frank’s outstanding sire Frankel also enjoyed black type success on Saturday with Frankel filly Victoria Harbour landing the Listed Betgoodwin Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood.

The remarkable Frankel went on to enjoy a G1 double on Sunday with his daughter Lake Victoria winning the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas and his son Candelari victorious in the G1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.
