THURSDAY DOUBLE FOR FUTURA

11 July 2025

Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura has been in good form of late.

The champion son of Dynasty was at it again when Futura supplied a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Thursday.

Futura’s two-year-old son Blind Date got off the mark in smart style when he won the first race on Thursday’s card.

Under a great ride from Richard Fourie, the Justin Snaith trained colt flew up late to nab the front running Black Eagle and win the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) by a neck.

It was a smart win from the Nancy Hossack owned colt, with Blind Date making just his second start.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, the two-year-old  is out of the Jet Master mare Red Flame.

His sire struck again in the fourth race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, with Futura gelding Not Wanted winning in convincing fashion.

Under a good ride from Brevan Plaatjies, the Vaughan Marshall trained three-year-old made much of the running to land the Centenary Syndicate Open Maiden (1700m) by a length.

Bred by the Gary Player Stud (Pty) Ltd, the lightly raced Not Wanted, who has raced just three times, races for Messrs Holloway and Player.

His sire Futura has enjoyed a good run of success of late, with the Drakenstein Stud’s other recent winners including the promising two-year-old Open Sesame, as well as Another Dream. The latter made it back to back wins when winning at Hollywoodbets Scottsville recently.

The inform Futura is also responsible for Ahead Of The Facts, who caught the eye when finishing third in the G3 Durban Golden Vase.
