Drakenstein Stud’s evergreen champion sire Trippi proved the star stallion at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only did Trippi’s champion son Jet Dark claim the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate for a second year running, Trippi mare Londalozi is the dam of Saturday’s eye catching G2 Glorious Goodwood Premier Trophy winner Hoedspruit.
Last season’s Equus Champion 3YO Colt and Champion Miler, Jet Dark once again showed his class when romping home to a hugely impressive win in Saturday’s Queen Plate (1600m). The Drakenstein Stud bred colt was ridden to victory by S’Manga Khumalo -who is unbeaten in two starts aboard Jet Dark, with S’Manga having also partnered Jet Dark to victory in last season’s G1 HKJC World Pool Champions Cup.
Despite being slightly slow away, Jet Dark stormed home down the inside of the track to land Saturday’s G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate by an emphatic two and a quarter lengths, leaving last season’s G1 Vodacom Durban July winner Kommetdieding (second) and reigning Horse Of The Year Rainbow Bridge (third) in his wake.
The Justin Snaith trained colt has now won six of 11 starts (Jet Dark also claimed the G3 Langerman as a two-year-old) for earnings of more than R2 million.
Out of the Jet Master mare Night Jet, Jet Dark was a R200 000 buy from the 2019 National Yearling Sale.
Trippi also enjoyed notable success as a broodmare sire over the past two days -not only is he broodmare sire of the aforementioned Hoedspruit, but his daughter Sapphire Gem is the dam of Friday’s Listed Ardmore Jamaica Handicap winner Pink Tourmaline.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi has six lots on the upcoming Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and a single yearling on this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
