Drakenstein Stud’s exceptional young sire One World came up with a pair of two-year-old winners at Turffontein on Sunday.
The One World colt Shadowfax got off the mark at just the second time of asking when he won the second race on Sunday.
Trained by Sean Tarry, Shadowfax was given a typically well judged ride by Richard Fourie in Sunday’s Happy Father’s Day Juvenile Plate (1160m).
Richard bought the colt with a late rattle which saw Shadowfax get up close home to beat the previously unbeaten Jan Van Goyen by just under a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Shadowfax (runner up on debut) races for Itssa It & Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
The colt, who is out of the Flower Alley mare Dipladenia, was the joint top-lot (at R900 000) sold off the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale.
One World’s second success on Sunday came when his two-year-old daughter Schipole caused a 16-1 surprise to win the Play Soccer 6,10 and 13 Maiden Plate (F&M) (1400m).
Trained by Mike and Mathew De Kock, Schipole was given a fine, front running ride by Callan Murray to break her maiden by two lengths.
The lightly raced Schipole was making just her second start on Sunday, with the filly having finished ninth first time out.
Bred by Ndoro Stud, Schipole races for Mesdames D L Erasmus & L Huntingford & Mr H W Leyenaar.
The filly, who is out of the Master Of My Fate mare Mistressofmyfate, was a R500 000 buy from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.
Met winning champion One World, whose remarkable first crop is headed by dual G1 winner One Stripe, has three lots on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale.
