WHAT A WINTER FILLY LANDS LADY’S PENDANT

23 February 2026

Drakenstein Stud’s inform stallion What A Winter came up with his 30th stakes winner on Friday.
What A Winter’s blue blooded daughter Symphony In White picked up her first black type victory when she won the Listed Lady’s Pendant (1200m) at Fairview on Friday.

A half-sister to future Drakenstein sire Snow Pilot, the Candice Bass trained Symphony In White showed her class with a smooth performance in the Lady’s Pendant.
Under JP Van Der Merwe, the blue blooded four-year-old raced well off the pace early on.
However, Symphony In White produced a fine burst of speed which propelled the What A Winter filly home to score by half a length.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Symphony In White is out of the Captain Al mare Snowdance.
She has now won four of 18 starts, with Symphony In White having finished third, beaten less than half a length by champion Quid Pro Quo, in the 2024 G1 Allan Robertson Championship.

Symphony In White’s four time G1 winning sire What A Winter also looks to have come up with another exciting prospect in the form of Get Up. That Sean Tarry trained two-year-old recently caught the eye when she made a winning debut at Turffontein.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2019-2020 , What A Winter has six lots on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, and a further 18 lots on the Premier Yearling Sale.
What A Winter’s yearlings on sale at the Cape Sale include a colt (Lot 37) whose granddam is the Western Winter sired champion Lady Windermere, while his Premier Sale draft features a three-parts brother (Lot 16) to Symphony In White.
