Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade is the sire of the consistent filly Traffic Jam, who is set to contest the G2 Qatar Prix de Royallieu at Chantilly this Saturday.
Trained by Nicolas Clement, Traffic Jam, bred on the same Duke Of Marmalade/Sadler’s Wells cross as retired champion Simple Verse, was second, two starts back, in the G2 Haras Firmamento Prix de Pomone and last time out was fourth in the G1 Qatar Prix Vermeille.
The Cartier Champion and five time G1 winner’s top-class son Big Orange, who scored an emotional win in the G1 Gold Cup earlier this year, is one of seven runners declared for Saturday’s G1 Prix du Cadran at Chantilly.
Trained by Michael Bell, Big Orange will be bidding to record a remarkable seventh group win on Saturday.
The charismatic gelding, who once again gets the services of Frankie Dettori, is one of racing’s most popular equine heroes and has banked in excess of £1 000 000 in stakes.
Duke Of Marmalade’s big race entries this weekend, however, are not limited to France. His top-class daughter Responsibleforlove looks a big contender for the G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday.
The Neil Drysdale trained filly, who races for Team Valor and Mrs Rupert, is bidding for a first G1 success having previously won stakes races in both Italy and North America.
From the same family as A P Indy and Lemon Drop Kid, Duke Of Marmalade’s other notable performers include the G1 winners Simple Verse, Star Of Seville, Sound Of Freedom and now sire Nutan.
Another son of this top-class sire, Marmelo, appears on track to contest the G1 Emirates Melbourne Cup in November.
