CAPE CLASSIC SUCCESS FOR TRIPPI COLT

23 October 2021

Drakenstein Stud’s evergreen champion sire Trippi looks to have yet another high-class runner to his name in the form of Trip Of Fortune.

The latter, one of 83 stakes winners for his sire, made it four wins from just five starts, and four wins on the bounce, when scoring a courageous win in Saturday’s G3 Cape Classic (1400m) at Kenilworth.

Second on debut, Trip Of Fortune had gone on to win his following three starts prior to Saturday’s race, with this streak including a triumph in last season’s Listed World Sports Betting Somerset 1200.
The Drakenstein Stud bred and owned colt was given a patient ride by inform jockey Aldo Domeyer in Saturday’s R125 000 feature.
Domeyer allowed the Candice Bass-Robinson trained Trip Of Fortune to settle off the pace, as outsider Safe Return went on to make the running.

In a thrilling fortune, Domeyer and Trip Of Fortune went on to win by nearly half a length, while downing Listed #womeinracing Sophomore Sprint hero Zapatillas, with Futura’s promising son Xavion flying up late for third spot.
Now a winner of four of just five starts, Trip Of Fortune claimed the 2021 Cape Classic in a time of 87.96 seconds.

Out of the Doowaley sired G2 Tibouchina Stakes winner Louvre, Trip Of Fortune is but one of several classy three-year-olds representing Trippi this season.

Other promising sophomores for Trippi this season include G3 Strelitzia Stakes victress Sound Of Warning, and the classy fillies Amanzimtoti and Santa Maria.

South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2015-2016, Trippi has two lots on the upcoming CTS Ready To Run Sale.
