DUKE FILLY LANDS TOMMY HOTSPUR HANDICAP

Drakenstein Stud’s five time G1 winning resident sire Duke Of Marmalade is no stranger to siring high-class fillies, and the son of Danehill has a very smart daughter to his name in the form of True To Life.

The latter showed her class when downing a smart field of sprinters to win the G3 Wilgerbosdrift Tommy Hotspur Handicap (1000m) at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
Under Gavin Lerena, four-year-old True To Life unleashed a devastating turn of foot in the finish to the Tommy Hotspur Handicap, which saw the Northfields Stud bred filly get up in the shadow of the post to score by a head.

Winner of the 2019 G3 Gauteng Tourism Authority Magnolia Handicap, True To Life has now won six times with her Tommy Hotspur triumph taking her earnings to over R600 000.

Her sire Duke Of Marmalade, whose current 3yos include high-class filly Chat Ching, has sired some exceptional fillies with the son of Danehill’s other notable daughters headed by Cartier Champion, and classic winner, Simple Verse, French Oaks heroine Star Of Seville and G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes winner Temple Grafin.

The sire of more than 70 black type horses, Duke Of Marmalade has seven lots on the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale, and five yearlings on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
