ONE WORLD : EQUUS CHAMPION

14 September 2020

Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young sire One World, who is currently covering his first book of mares, gained a welcome boost to his stallion page when the handsome bay was named Equus Champion Older Male at Sunday’s virtual Equus Awards ceremony.

Also nominated for the Champion Middle Distance Horse award , One World beat out such standout gallopers as G1 Vodacom Durban July winner Belgarion, five time G1 winner Hawwaam, last season’s G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge victor Rainbow Bridge and G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate victor Vardy to be named as an official Equus Champion.

One World is one of nine Equus Champions for his deceased champion sire Captain Al (whose daughter Celtic Sea was named Equus Champion Older Filly/Mare on Sunday), and is one of more than 100 stakes winners sired by the former Cape Guineas winner.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud (who were officially named South Africa’s Champion Breeders for 2019-2020 on Sunday), One World won or finished second in each of his five starts last season, and ended his career on a high when downing a high-class field to win the 2020 G1 Sun Met in impressive fashion.

One World, whose dam is a daughter of hugely influential champion sire Giant’s Causeway, won or placed in nine black type races , with the bay winning stakes races at two, three, and four.

He is fully booked for 2020.
