SCARLET LADY SUCCESS FOR FUTURA

17 April 2023

Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning sire Futura is having another fine season in 2022-2023 and the former Horse Of The Year struck yet again when his daughter Dawnofanewday won the Listed World Sports Betting Scarlet Lady (1750m) at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

In the process, the filly became the 13th stakes winner for Futura.

Under log-leading jockey Keagan De Melo, the Dean Kannemeyer trained Dawnofanewday came with a late rattle to land Sunday’s Listed feature race by just over a length.

It was a well deserved first stakes win for the four-year-old with Dawnofanewday having finished fourth in the Listed Michael Roberts Stakes last time out and second, behind Equus Champion Canadian Summer, in the G3 Flamboyant Stakes back in January.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Dawnofanewday has now won four of 18 starts with the consistent filly having finished unplaced just twice in her career thus far.

Dawnofanewday is out of the Trippi mare Dawn Rising, and is thus bred on the same Futura/Trippi cross as graded stakes winners Pink Tourmaline and Vihaan’s Pie as well as speedy Bauhinia Handicap queen Sweet Future.

Also sire of this season’s G3 Politician Stakes winner Rockpool and recent stakes winners Ekoria and Thefutureisbright, champion Futura has a top-class draft on offer at this week’s National Yearling Sale including a half-sister (Lot 77) to recent G1 Splashout Cape Derby third Without Question and this season’s Listed Europa Point Drum Star Handicap winner Infinite Wonder, a three-parts brother (Lot 91) to G1 WSB Presents The Gauteng Summer Cup runner up Majestic Mozart, and a filly (Lot 142) out of the Silvano sired G2 SA Oaks winner Wind Chill.
