TRIPPI FILLY LIFTS CARTIER SCEPTRE STAKES

9 January 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s reigning champion sire Trippi celebrated yet another big win on Friday when his blue blooded daughter Live Life downed some of South Africa’s top sprinting fillies to win the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes, on the first day of the 2017 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate race meeting at Kenilworth on Friday.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm (also responsible for 2017 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Legal Eagle), Live Life stormed up late to post a 0.75 of a length success in Friday’s R400 000 sprint.

In the process, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained three-year-old accounted for triple G1 winner Carry On Alice, with G3 Champagne Stakes winner Beach Goddess back in third, with Trippi’s G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess among the beaten runners.

Live Life, who stopped the clock in a time of 72.6 seconds for the 1200m race, was a R2 500 000 buy from the 2015 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

She is the latest high class performer bred on the Trippi/National Assembly cross, with this cross having also produced G3 Magnolia Handicap heroine Franny and Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Agra.

Friday’s G2 winner is the 67th stakes winner for Trippi, whose G2 Selangor Cup winning son Gold Standard is one of the leading fancies for the upcoming G1 Investec Cape Derby and whose star sprinter Trip To Heaven (a runner in Saturday’s G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes) holds an entry in the G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship.
