WHAT A WINTER TOPS 2YO SALE

22 November 2021

Drakenstein Stud’s inform stallion What A Winter provided fireworks at Saturday’s November Two Year Old Sale, when an unnamed daughter of the multiple Equus Champion made R800 000 to top the one day auction.

Consigned to the November Sale by Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, the well bred two-year-old was knocked down to the Hollywood Syndicate to top Saturday’s sale.
The What A Winter filly, catalogued as Lot 29, is a full-sister to the top-class Celestial Love, winner of both the G2 4Racing Camellia Stakes and G3 World Sports Betting Man O’ War Sprint last season.
To date, the classy Celestial Love has won five of just nine starts for earnings of over R430 000.

She is one of more than 30 black type horses for What A Winter, who was South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs last season.

What A Winter ended the 2021 November Two Year Old Sale as the second Leading Sire by Aggregate, with all six of his two-year-olds on sale selling for a gross aggregate of R1.58 million.

The champion son of Western Winter is enjoying another fine season in 2021-2022, with What A Winter currently sixth on the South African General Sires List.
